Ways to increase fruits and vegetables:
- Serve more raw veggies with low fat dips to increase consumption.
- Serve more individual cooked veggies and less mixed cooked veggies.
- Taste tests to increase children to try new fruits and veggies.
- Add fruit to muffins
- Offer caramel dip with fresh fruits.
- Offer dried fruits to add to cereals.
- Offer fresh fruit with complementary foods: cheese, peanut butter, and yogurt.
- Offer sliced/diced fresh fruits as finger foods.
- Garnish fruits with caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, sugar free whip topping and a cherry.
- Encourage fruit with ice cream.
- Add fruit to jello and serve with sugar free whip topping and cherry garnish.
- Serve shredded carrots in lime jello with sugar free topping and cherry garnish.
- Model good eating habits.
- Use apple corers/slicers, melon ballers, and lemon juice to improve appearance of fruit offered.
- Have theme meals highlighting a cultural fruit or vegetable.
