Principal, Mr. David Smith Mr. Smith

David Smith has been the principal at Whitwell Elementary since 2007.  Mr. Smith has been teaching in Whitwell, TN for 15 years.  He taught Math, Social Studies, Science, and Special Education in grades 5-8 for 7 years and also served as assistant principal for 7 years at Whitwell Middle School. 

David sponsored the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Odyssey of the Mind, Jr. Beta Club, and Chess Club while at Whitwell Middle School.  He also coached football, baseball, track, and basketball during his years there. David started and co-sponsored the Holocaust Project that spawned the world renowned, “Paper Clip Project” at Whitwell Middle School.

David earned his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee Technological University and his master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Trevecca Nazerene University. He was honored with the Outstanding Young Alumnus award from Tennessee Tech in 2004.

Mr. Smith is married to Laura, and they have two sons, Cody and Devin. 

Welcome to Whitwell Elementary School.   Whitwell Elementary School is located in Whitwell, TN in the heart of the beautiful Sequatchie Valley.  WES is a SACS accredited school with the world’s greatest students.  We have been blessed with a state of the art facility that was opened in 2001. WES has around 600 students in grades Pre-K-4 and boasts of an outstanding on-site daycare facility for teachers’ children.

We offer all the core curriculum classes as well as guidance, library, physical education, art and music weekly. We also have an after-school program for all grades and a tutoring program for grades 1-4. There are many extra-curricular activities offered at WES, including Odyssey of the Mind, Piano, Art Lessons, Newsletter/Website design, Computer classes, and tumbling. 


I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with the children at Whitwell Elementary School. WES has an outstanding faculty that truly loves their students and everyone works extremely hard to give our children the best education available.
