As Director of Careers and Technology, Mrs. Light is responsible for providing and overseeing the technology programs to address students' career goals. Other responsibilities include:
- Purchasing books, equipment and supplies for the Career and Technology Education programs
- Develop and update articulation agreements with Chattanooga State Technical Community
- Provide and plan for staff development
- Complete and submit various reports
- Plan career awareness and exploration programs for grades 7-12
- Plan and coordinate various state initiatives
- Assist instructors in implementing the state curriculum
- Prepare budgets for program
- Write and administer the Carl Perkins grant
- Prepare and submit requests to Board
- Work cooperatively with other departments
- Work with community-wide Advisory Council
- Participate in the selection of instructors
- Maintain an inventory of equipment, books and software
- Attend local, regional, and state meetings
- Collaborate with principals on course offering and scheduling
Mrs. Light graduated from Whitwell High School in 1977. Her educational background also includes:
- Bachelors in Interior Design from The University of Tennessee in 1977
- Masters in Vocational/Technical Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1987
- Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum from Tennessee Technologial University in 1995
Mrs. Light worked as a draftsman for Continental Telephone company for four years. She has 23 years experience in education. Her past experiences include teaching drafting for 19 years at Whitwell High School and the position of the Program Improvement Coordinator for Marion County. She assumed her current position in 2002.
